KIM MONTGOMERY - BIOGRAPHY

Class Descriptions:

VINYASSA YOGA MONTGOMERY METHOD:
This practice taught by Kim Montgomery focuses on "feeling the body in space" coupled with the breath, which is the rhythm carried throughout the practice. This takes the practice to the level of new experience, and the aspirant becomes analogical with the practice. Montogmery Method Yoga begins with Astanga sun salutes and morphs into a challenging, flowing, and delightful practice. This class is rated "E" for everyone. (If you've never practiced yoga before, the "Yoga Words" workshop is highly recommended.)

JABARI YOGA:
Astanga Yoga at its best. This is a must practice class which is truly all about the Asana. As Pattabi Jois says, "Astanga is 99% practice and 1% theory." The magic of yoga is truly revealed in this practice. Rated "E" for Everyone. Sundays, all levels welcome. http://www.jabariyoga.com/

HOT YOGA:
Taught in a heated room. This practice is rated "E" for Everyone, but particularly beginners, those seeking weight loss, and those who are rehabilitating from muscular injury. Some benefits are immediate, like the releasing of toxins through sweat and the relaxing of the muscles from the heat. Bring a towel, water, and a change of clothes.

CORE REVOLUTION:
A revolutionary method which changes the body quickly, due to its intensity. This practice is born of the "Lotte Burke Method,” established some thirty years ago by a injured dancer, to re-develop strength out of injury. This practice is orthopedic. It is designed to create lean yet strong bodies. Form is addressed throughout the class, strength is developed and improved. Metabolic rates increase and assist in weight loss. The stronger the student becomes, the more cardiovascular the pace becomes. For best results, three times a week is recommended coupled with proper eating.

SPECIALTY CLASSES

BHARATANATYAM:
Classical Indian Dance , a beautiful dance of hand and body language, Taught by Njdeka Emenogu

"YOGA WORDS " WORKSHOP/LECTURE:
This 2-hour class focuses on the language of yoga and teaches the aspirant how to have a most productive class even if it's the first time. Students attending this class will understand Sanskrit words and phrases used in class and what positions should look like and feel like in their own bodies. All students should attend this workshop at least once. This workshop is also done as a 5-Week beginner course.
 

GENTLE YOGA:
For seniors or those with limited mobility, taught in chairs.

MUDRAS:
Hand gestures, originally used in prayer rituals in Ancient Egypt, make manifest sacred intentions. This practice brings mind and  body together, in that your intention must be set in order to experience it. Mudras promote clairvoyant action, and actualize inner states through outer expressions with the hands, releasing fear, establishing clarity, discipline, knowledge, and even enlightenment. This practice is rated "E” for Everyone, and is usually taught at Retreats.

KRIYAS:
Kriyas are Yogis made clean. Kriya means cleanse. This class teaches how to clean the digestive system, the nasal passage, and the lungs naturally. Only taught on Yoga Retreats.

"EAT RIGHT FOR YOUR BODY TIGHT":
This specialty class is a one-on-one nutritional training. How to eat and feel good. How much to eat and still feel good, and lastly when to eat and feel good. Only serious applicants.

MAUNA:
This is the art of silence. The magic can only be experienced through not talking. A divine experience. Practiced on retreats only.

 

 

 

Beyond Yoga Rules:

  • Observe silence before, during, and after class. This is the signature of a true Yogi, as silence is our closest to 'being'
  • Sign in and first-timers fill out information form located in 'Sign In' book.
  • Cell phones off
  • All belongings are kept OUTSIDE of the studio (ie purses, coats, shoes, etc)
  • No food or drinks in studio (water bottles allowed)
  • No Gum chewing
  • Wear comfortable clothing
  • Do not practice on a full stomach
